Music
An integral part of all services at the Fellowship is special music, carefully chosen by Marcia Pasquer, Music Director, to enhance the subject of the spoken message.
The quality of musicianship is high, thanks to professional guest musicians drawn from such organizations as the Boulder Philharmonic, the Colorado Symphony Orchestra, the Denver Brass, and the Rocky Mountain Center for the Musical Arts. Interpretive dancers, as well as professional and world musicians also contribute to the diverse, creative, entertaining, and expressive programming. In addition, members of the congregation who are musicians in their own right are quite often called upon to share their music with the Fellowship, particularly for an annual spring all-music service.
An enthusiastic and energetic choir, The Fellowship Singers, has blossomed under the direction of Marlys Brinkman. The choir rehearses three Monday evenings per month and sings for both Sunday service once a month. Times and dates are announced at least one month in advance, and new participants are always welcome (no auditions necessary).
The choir’s skilled and devoted accompanist, Julie Morris, also chairs the Music Committee, an active and innovative group that is very supportive of all aspects of the music program. Its most recent triumph is the acquisition of a beautiful grand piano. Donations to a special Piano Fund have been obtained through presentations of musical concerts (the KeyNote Series) offered in people’s homes, and through the chance to purchase a “key” for the instrument (the Ebony and Ivory Fund, coordinated by Connie Holder). Guest artists, as well as talented members and friends (Mary Morris, Pete Wernick, Marcia Pasquer) have been a part of these events, which have also provided pleasant opportunities for socializing among music lovers.
The Ministry of Music is, indeed, an invaluable entity at the Fellowship. For more information about special music during services consult the Saturday advertisement about the BVUUF in the Boulder Daily Camera or see the calendar page on this website.
